Plan vegetation work around the home’s priorities.

For properties with trees, understory vegetation or larger wooded areas, a useful plan connects the immediate home surroundings with broader fuels-management needs. Access, slope, debris handling and ongoing maintenance shape the proposed scope.

Vegetation priorities near the home

Identify brush, low branches, dead material and stored combustibles around the structure. The assessment helps prioritize the immediate surroundings before defining any larger wooded-area treatment.

A practical thinning and debris scope

For Missoula and Bitterroot-area properties, acreage is only a starting point. Vegetation density, slope, equipment access and the intended disposal or handling of cut material shape the estimate.

Maintain the completed work

Discuss the debris and regrowth tasks needed after the initial vegetation project. If the assessment identifies vents, decks or other building concerns, record them for a separate construction-scope review.

What to include in your request

Provide the address, approximate acreage or work area, photos, equipment-access details and any existing assessment. Explain whether your priority is the area near the house, a larger vegetation project, or both.

Planning your project

Does an acreage estimate determine the final project cost?

No. Acreage helps describe the project, but vegetation density, access, slope, debris handling and the agreed work determine the final scope and price.

Can I share a Montana DNRC home assessment?

Yes. Include its recommendations in your request and explain which tasks you want to address. A1 Ember’s project estimate is separate from the DNRC assessment, and any program eligibility or official sign-off remains with the responsible organization.

What happens after I request an estimate?

We confirm receipt by email, review your address and proposed work, and reach out to discuss the project. The team confirms scope, site-visit needs and scheduling before work begins.

Can improvements reduce my insurance premium?

Insurance discounts vary by state, insurer and policy. The California FAIR Plan example on our calculator does not establish savings for a property outside California. Ask your insurer or broker about eligible improvements and retain records of the completed work.
